Note, with time charts if trading momentum happens through the ending of a time interval, similar aspects Also, remember that to get a feel of how tick charts work in real time, and more importantly, to get a sense of how to trade them, you need to experience trading these charts in a live market. Only then can you get a sense of how price moves, how liquidity affects price action, and how slippage can be mitigated or taken into account. Tick charts are becoming more and more popular among traders, as they provide a different perspective on trading than traditional charts. Many traders are using tick charts in combination with the common time-based charts for a better chart analysis. What Are Tick Charts. A tick chart is a predefined number of trades between buyers and sellers. A chart from TD Ameritrade of the intraday Spdr S&P 500 ETF (SPY) is an excellent example of the difference between using a tick or time chart to trade.
